Thank you for your interest in joining one of our Tecplot webinars!

Once you have signed up for one of the sessions, you will want to familiarize yourself with the procedure for joining an online webinar before the session.  We recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time to review the materials in advance, and contact us if you have any questions.  A few helpful hints are included below on how to prepare for the webinar and how to join the session.

Preparation

  • A high speed internet connection is required, such as DSL or a cable modem.  If you are using a slow speed dial-up connection to access the internet, you will not be able to follow the demonstrations.
  • Close your other programs.  You will be watching the webinar via your browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.).  Because the video is streaming into your computer, we recommend that you close most of your other programs so that there are no other tasks running in the background that can interfere with the transmission.  Any scheduled tasks, such as virus scans or even your screensaver, should be disabled or paused during the webinar.  For best results, you may want to shut down your computer and re-boot prior to joining the webinar.

Join the Webinar

  • Confirmation email.  Prior to the start of the webinar, you will receive a confirmation email that will contain the following information:
    *   The weblink that will take you to the webinar.
    *   The phone number to call to join the online conference.
    *   Access code (meeting ID).
  • Click on the weblink.  A few minutes before the start of the webinar (10 minutes is recommended), click on the weblink contained in your confirmation email.

    The weblink in your confirmation email contains the URL "www.gotomeeting.com". If you have never participated in a webinar before, GoToMeeting (the internet service that provides the webinar conference capability) will download software to your computer that allows you to view the webinar.  If prompted to accept the download, click on YES or GRANT.  The download and installation process will take about a minute or two.
  • Admittance to the webinar.  Admittance to the webinar is based on your registration information.  When signing into the webinar, please make sure that you identify yourself with the same valid name and email, otherwise you may not be recognized and you could be refused entrance into the session.  Please note that space in the webinars is limited.  Failure to properly identify yourself when signing into the webinar may result in non-admittance to the session.

    When the sign-in process is complete, you will be entered into the webinar and two gold pop-up windows will appear on your computer screen (see the illustration).  The GoToMeeting Viewer Window will appear (see the left side of the illustration), and the Attendee Control Panel will appear (see the right portion of the illustration).

  • GoToMeeting Viewer.  In the above illustration, notice at the very bottom of the computer screen (next to the green Start button) you will see a tab called "GoToMeeting Viewer ...".  It has an icon on it that looks like an orange "daisy". When you see that orange daisy appear at the bottom of your computer screen, you have entered into the webinar.  If you have other screens or programs open, you might have to click on that tab in order to see what is happening on the presenter's computer screen (which is displayed in the GoToMeeting Viewer).  To maximize the Viewer, simply click on the middle icon (square) that is located in the top right corner of the Viewer.

    If you experience problems seeing or accessing the GoToMeeting Viewer, you may need to check your virus protector.  You may have a firewall in place that is interfering with receiving the transmission.
  • Mute your microphone.  During the presentation you will be given an opportunity to ask questions.  However during the basic instructional period, you will be asked by the instructor to mute your microphones so that everyone can hear properly, and to minimize background noise.
  • Attendee Control Panel.  When you first join a meeting, the Attendee Control Panel appears on the right side of your computer screen (as shown in the illustration above) and then it will minimize to the side of your screen .  Notice that on the left side of the Attendee Control Panel (halfway down the left side), there is a small tab with a set of arrows that point to the right.  Click on that arrow to minimize the panel, and it will shrink out of the way.  Likewise, if you want to expand the panel when it has been minimized, click on the arrows located on that tab.
